Microneedling

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is the process of creating controlled micro-injuries to the skin through a series of tiny needles which kick skin into healing mode and stimulates collagen and elastin production. This process plumps skin and improves the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, pores and uneven skin tone. The little holes from the needles create “micro channels” that allow skincare products, such as potent serums, to penetrate and absorb into the deeper layers of skin to deliver more powerful results. Think of your skin as being made up from a basket weave pattern. When it is disrupted by things like acne scarring, large pores and wrinkles etc it creates an imperfection in the weave, which is then shown on the outer surface level of the skin. Aside from trying to fill the delves on the surface of the skin, there is little you can do from the outside to improve this appearance. Microneedling works from the inside at a deeper level to break down the old imperfect collagen weave and rebuilds it back up to create a new firmer, smoother outer layer of skin.

What does it do?

- Generates new Collagen and Elastin in the skin - Creates firmer, smoother, more toned skin - Targets and treats scars, acne scars, wrinkles and enlarged pores - Highly effective treatment for anti-aging and those wanting to reduce wrinkles and fine lines - Treats uneven skin tone

Is microneedling painful?

You're probably thinking - needles going into the skin - that sounds painful! Well I'm pleased to report that most clients find it virtually painless to mildly uncomfortable. The depth the needles go to shouldn't be deep enough to cause pain or discomfort.

How long does it take?

The whole treatment will usually last 20-30 minutes. A longer treatment slot is given to allow for a thorough consultation to be performed prior to treatment.

How will my skin look after and is there anything I need to avoid after?

Everyone's skin is different and will react differently, however generally the skin is pretty rosy red for the next few hours after and possibly into the next day (although this is less common). It's advised you dont have it done too close to a big event or make social plans for the day of your appointment. As long as redness has subsided it's fine to wear make up the following day if necessary as the micro channels should have closed by then. If you can go without make up thats even better. The initial skin tightening and pore reduction can be seen immediately after treatment. However, you won’t see your final results until four to six weeks after your anti-aging treatment. Both collagen production and cellular turnover are accelerated, but it still takes your body time to produce new, strong, healthy collagen. You'll be given aftercare advice following your treatment, however the main thing to avoid is sun exposure for at least 2 weeks after having it done, so please bear this in mind when planning holidays and appointments etc.

How much does it cost?

A single session of microneedling costs £70 A course of 6 every 4-6 weeks is £390 (saving £30)

How many sessions do I need?

Microneedling is a treatment that is usually recommended as part of a course. Those who are working on improving acne scarring, scarring, fine lines and wrinkles should expect to commit to at least 6 sessions every 4-6 weeks to see an improvement. Please don't think one session will achieve your desired outcome.
